My Favorite Things (March 29th, 2020 3:00pm)

Inspired by the charming lyrics of Oscar Clendenning Hammerstein II, this program will feature some of the most popular music through the ages. This will be the North Port Symphony’s version of “The Soundtrack Of Our Lives.” We hope this concert will become one of YOUR Favorite Things.

Alexa Lowrey

Alexa Lowrey

Guest Artist

Alexa Lowrey made her North Port Symphony debut in 2014 where she performed to rave reviews, and is happy and excited to make her eighth appearance with this South Florida cultural icon.

A native Floridian, Alexa has seemed destined for the stage since she was one year old, when selected out of 50 contestants to be the Ruskin Tomato Queen. She has been treading the boards ever since.

Now at age 18, she has many roles and titles in her repertoire. She has been a regular at the Patel Conservatory (part of the Straz Performing Arts Center in Tampa), where she performed as starring roles in the following: Once Upon a Mattress, A Little Princess, and Thoroughly Modern Millie. Miss Lowrey has also had featured lead parts in: Seussical the Musical, Alice in Wonderland, Beauty and the Beast, The Music Man, The Little Mermaid, Oklahoma, and Into The Woods. Alexa has performed in two professional Operas, Carmen and La Boheme, in which she was selected by the Maestro to be the featured children’s soloist in the famous Café Scene.

Alexa attended Tampa Preparatory School where, through the Tampa Prep Chorus, she travelled to take part in the famous Candlelight Concerts at EPCOT Center, as well as getting to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City. As an active member of the Tampa Prep’s theater department, she has played several principal roles such as Blanche in Jane Eyre, Alice in The Addams Family, Fraulein Kost in Cabaret, Rebecca in It Shoulda Been You, and most recently the title role of Bonnie in Bonnie and Clyde.

In the summer of 2017, Alexa was selected to attend the Broadway Dreams Foundation week-long workshop in Atlanta, where she studied with established Broadway Directors and Choreographers. She was also one of ten High School students chosen to attend a similar, two-week, intensive workshop on Staten Island, at Wagner College, gaining valuable experience and insight.

She has mastered a very difficult song, the U.S. National Anthem (Star Spangled Banner), and was asked to sing it numerous times for the Lakeland Flying Tigers minor league baseball team, as well as for many other civic events.

Currently, Alexa is obtaining her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance: Musical Theater at NYU Steinhardt in New York City. At NYU, she is able to work with teachers who have performed on television and stage, learning everything she needs to achieve her dream of performing on Broadway. The staff at NYU Steinhardt continues to bring in notable members of the Broadway community such as actresses Jenna Collela (Come From Away) and Betsy Wolf (Falsettos, Waitress), an agent from Tara Rubin Casting, and the founder of Broadwayworld.com, Beth Stevens, letting the students ask questions and learn from those with experience about the business they are going into.

Alexa is loving the city life, but is excited to be back home, performing at one of her favorite venues. She also wants to especially thank her mom for her tireless effort and support.
