Where the Music Becomes Home

The Symphony has been built entirely on heart: volunteers giving their time, musicians giving their talent, and community members giving their support.

More than four decades ago, fifteen everyday residents of North Port gathered in a small church, not because they sought applause or prestige, but because they loved music, and wanted to share that joy with their neighbors. On January 21, 1984, their very first concert filled St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church with possibility, hope, and harmony. That intimate moment became the seed of what you now know as the North Port Symphony.

Growing with Our Community

During the late 1980s, members of the orchestra stepped beyond the concert stage and into the lives of young people, developing the first after-school string programs at Glenallen Elementary. Those early acts of generosity blossomed into a thriving Youth Orchestra in the mid-1990s, bringing music education to 45 young string, wind, and brass players.

That’s the power of donor support: new generations of musicians, each discovering their voice.

Over the years, the Symphony celebrated its 10th, 20th, 30th, and 40th anniversaries, performing works that honored its roots and reflected its growth. Each milestone stands as proof that when a community cherishes the arts, when it invests in them, they flourish.

A Symphony with a Home of Its Own

In 2000, the Venice Foundation awarded a transformative $57,205 grant, a gift that allowed the Symphony to enter its first true home at the new North Port Performing Arts Center. Music Suite was dedicated to Ruth McArdle in March 2015.  That generous investment didn’t just provide equipment; it carved out a physical space where creativity, connection, and community could thrive.

Donors made it possible then. Donors make it possible today.

A New Era of Artistic Excellence

In 2012, acclaimed conductor Robert Romanski became Artistic Director and Principal Conductor. Under his leadership, the Symphony has grown in confidence, artistry, and regional presence, continuing its long tradition of welcoming amateurs, professionals, and students alike to volunteer their talents for the joy of music.

Today, the Symphony presents five concerts each season, enriching cultural life from November through March, just as it has since its earliest days.

Our Vision - And Where You Fit In

We believe in being “the most welcoming community orchestra in southwest Florida.”
This vision is bigger than music, it is about belonging, connection, and shared purpose.

But this vision depends on the generosity of people like you.

Your gift keeps the Symphony playing:

  • It ensures that concerts remain a gift to the community, not a luxury reserved for a few.

  • It keeps rehearsals accessible for all musicians.

  •  It contributes to programs that educate, inspire, and unite.

  • It places instruments into young hands.

Every donation, no matter the size, has a ripple effect that reaches far beyond the stage. It lights a path for future musicians, strengthens community bonds, and preserves the legacy of a Symphony born from love, dedication, and shared joy.

Join the Legacy

The Symphony has always been more than an orchestra, it is a reflection of the people who believe in it.
People like you.
